A New, Super Mario Bros Game for 3DS in the works

New Mario on the way for the 3DS. Water is wet, news at eleven

For one of the few times in history, a Nintendo console is launching again without a Mario game. For those saddened by this loss, dont worry there is a new one on the way, and Miyamoto wants to show you it as soon as possible.

In the latest edition of the Iwata Asks series, the original team of Super Mario Bros (including Miyamoto obviously) have been crammed into the Iwata Asks room of torture and been made to spill on all things Mario 3DS. Miyamoto had this to say on a 3DS Mario game;

"So, in the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system. I want to show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS."

So when is "as soon as possible"? Well apart from being apparently "as soon as possible", it could mean E3, a random event before then or even this time next year. But you can be sure, there is a Mario 3DS game on the way.
