New Spyro game brings toys and games together

Skylanders Spyros Adventure announced, will incorporate a collectable toy gameplay element

Well, it seems like Activision have killed off one franchise and brought to life another with the announcement of Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure for the Wii, the first Spyro game to be released since 2008’s The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. This next instalment in the Spyro series, developed by Toys for Bob, won’t be a continuation of the Legend of Spyro series. What sets this instalment apart from the rest is the intriguing way in which it will incorporate real life Spyro toys into the game. The game will come bundled with a ’portal’ upon which you place your handpainted toy on (of which there will be over 30 upon release).

The game recognises each indivdual toy and beams it into the game where you can play as that character in-game. Another cool feature is the ability to save your progress to your toy and the bring it over to a friend’s house and pick up from where you were before - even if your friend’s toy looks exactly the same as yours.

The starter kit the comes with four collectable toys, including Spyro and is expected to hit around Spring 2011. We don’t know about you, but this toy feature has us intrigued...
