New batch of Wii HD, Project Cafe rumors, now dubbed Stream

The pee jokes are set to continue as rumours about Nintendos next console heat up

A new and more detailed set of rumoured specs and details on Nintendo’s next home console have have hit the Internet, and IGN who got the details from "trusted sources" are pretty sure of the validity of them.

First up, the name of the console. While we’ve been hearing the Project Café name for a couple of weeks now, the next home console has apparently been dubbed "Stream", well, at least that’s one of the names being considered.

The look of the console is said to be a "modernised SNES" and will be about the same size as an Xbox 360. The increased size of the console could also lend credibility to the increased specs that are flying around. The more powerful something is, the more cooling it needs and thus a greater size.

Will Project Café be more powerful than the Xbox 360 or the PS3?

Speaking of specs, the system is said to have a GPU based on a revamped AMD R700 GPU architecture, and that the graphics processor will outperform a PS3. On the CPU side, Nintendo’s love affair with IBM chips is set to continue with a custom-built triple-core Power PC chipset being used. This all means the 1080p resolution the system is said to output won’t even break a sweat.

So all this power must come at a price? IGN’s sources say the system could come in anywhere between US$350 and US$400. Release date? Well, manufacturer Foxconn is apparently shipping them from October—when they end up at retail is anyone’s guess.

IGN’s sources also reconfirm the system will have controllers with screens in them and it’ll be able to stream games to each controller.

So there are the new rumors—what do you think?
